SIGNS YOUR SWITCHBOARD NEEDS AN UPGRADE
You still have ceramic rewireable fuses. If your board has porcelain fuse holders with a piece of fuse wire inside, it needs to go. These fuses do not offer the fast, precise protection modern circuit breakers do, and they are almost always paired with boards that predate mandatory safety switches.
There are no safety switches (RCDs). AS/NZS 3000 requires RCD protection on all final subcircuits in domestic installations. If your board only has circuit breakers or fuses and no RCDs, you have no protection against electric shock from a fault in an appliance or fixed wiring.
The board is on an asbestos backing panel. Common in Yamba homes built through the 1970s and 80s. Asbestos is safe when undisturbed, but any future electrical work involves drilling into the panel, which is not compliant. Best practice is to have it professionally removed during the upgrade.
