HOW WE ACTUALLY FIND ELECTRICAL FAULTS
Step 1 — Talk to you first
Half of the diagnosis is understanding the symptom. When does it trip? What's running at the time? Did it start after a storm, a new appliance, a bathroom reno? A few honest questions save an hour of testing.
Step 2 — Isolate the circuit
At the switchboard we split the affected circuit down until we've narrowed the fault to a single run, sub-circuit or piece of equipment. This alone tells us whether we're chasing an appliance, a cable, a fitting, or the switchboard itself.
Step 3 — Test, don't guess
Insulation resistance testing between conductors and earth quickly finds cable damage. Loop and PFC testing verifies the earthing path. A clamp meter on the neutral finds leakage that RCDs are reacting to. Thermal imaging picks up hot terminations before they smoke.
Step 4 — Fix and prove
Once the fault is repaired we retest to prove it's gone — not just that the breaker holds. You get a written summary of what we found, what we did and (if relevant) a Certificate of Compliance.

My safety switch trips every couple of days — is that normal?
No. A healthy circuit doesn't trip an RCD without a genuine fault. Repeated tripping means accumulated leakage that will get worse. It's worth investigating early.
Do you charge to just come out and look?
We charge for diagnostic time, which is quoted before we start. If the repair is fast, most callouts are wrapped up in the first hour.
Can you find underground cable faults?
Yes — we use cable tracing and locating equipment to pinpoint underground faults rather than digging up the whole yard.
What if the fault only happens sometimes?
